Grant awarded NIHR i4i Connect funding secured
The challenge
Directed Systems' Hypotension Decision Assist (HDA) platform uses AI to warn clinicians of dangerous drops in blood pressure during surgery. A leading driver of post-operative complications, turning a validated algorithm into a clinically deployable product needed non-dilutive capital and a credible NHS clinical partner, and the funding call demanded evidence that the technology could be evaluated in a real operating theatre.
What we did
- Identified NIHR i4i Connect as the right fit for a medtech product at this clinical readiness level.
- Built the clinical evidence and unmet-need narrative around measurable patient outcomes, not algorithm performance alone.
- Structured the project with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust as the evaluation partner and led the application end to end.
The result
Directed Systems secured NIHR i4i Connect funding to advance HDA toward clinical deployment with UHB NHS Foundation Trust, de-risking the next phase of development without giving up equity.
