DOE SBIR Phase IClean tech: energy storage
Clean energy company
$200K To de-risk a new electrode chemistry

The challenge
A materials company had a candidate electrode chemistry that could cut cell cost significantly, but the data set was thin and DOE topics are narrowly worded. Applying to the wrong subtopic would have cost a full annual cycle.
What we did
- Mapped the technology to the correct DOE topic and subtopic, and completed the required letter of intent.
- Built the technical narrative around measurable performance targets versus the incumbent chemistry.
- Wrote the full application including the commercialization plan and national-lab collaboration arrangements.
The result
A Phase I award of $200K funding the cycling and safety data needed for a Phase II scale-up proposal.
