The challenge
Neural Voice is building headless, real-time conversational AI that holds natural voice conversations without a scripted flow. It is a genuinely hard technical problem, and the risk was writing it up as a product roadmap rather than as the research challenge assessors fund.
What we did
- Positioned the work around the specific technical uncertainty in real-time, low-latency voice interaction.
- Built the commercial case and route to market alongside the R&D plan so both scored well.
- Managed the full Smart Grant application, one of the most competitive open calls in the UK.

Neural Voice was awarded a £341,810 Innovate UK Smart Grant to accelerate development of its real-time conversational AI engine.
